About the Private Lessons
Course Overview:
Welcome to year two of your violin journey! Having laid a solid foundation in left hand technique, bowing skills, and note reading during your first year, it is now time to elevate your abilities and deepen your musical expression.
Course Objectives :
Advanced Technique Development: Continue refining and developing your left hand and bowing technique, ensuring more precise and fluid playing.
Expanding Repertoire: We will explore new repertoire in the keys of D major, A major, G major, C major, and E minor, and learn to play the accompanying scales, enhancing your versatility and command of the violin.
Deepening Musical Literacy: Further your understanding of the language of written music, improving your ability to read and interpret scores independently.
Bowing Styles and Articulations: Learn various bowing styles and articulations to add nuance and expression to your playing.
Focus on Hymns and Orchestral Music: Explore great hymns by renowned composers and highlight famous orchestral compositions that showcase the violin.
Performance: Perform for family and friends during our December and Spring Showcases.
Expectations for Students
Weekly Practice: Consistent practice is crucial for progress. Students are expected to engage in regular, weekly practice sessions outside of class and turn in a weekly practice record.
Active Class Participation: Participation goes beyond playing; it includes learning in a group setting and occasionally leading the group, which fosters leadership skills and musical collaboration.

REQUIRED MATERIALS
1. Students are expected to rent their own violin for the duration of the course if they do not already own one.
Instruments are available to rent or purchase through All Strings Attached in Stillwater or Brickhouse Music in
River Falls
2. Portable music stand.
3. Shoulder rest (violin and viola) Kun or Everest brand preferred.
