DESCRIPTION
ABOUT THE CLASS
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” -Jeremiah 29:7

As a Christian, this country is not our true home. And yet, we are called to be engaged and work for the good of the place where we live. How should a middle-schooler be thinking about these things? A good start is by understanding the structure of our government and how we interact with it.

Civics class will introduce students to the Unites States’ founding documents, structure and branches of government, and the rights and responsibilities of its citizens. Throughout the class we will use different classroom simulations to model the function of government. This will give students a fun and engaging way learn the intention behind the government’s structure and how it functions in real life. We will practice modeling things like the Constitutional Convention, creating and passing laws through Congress, mock trial, and more.
Our textbook will be We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution, Level 2 from the Center for Civic Education. This will be provided to students on the first day of class.
