French 1 is a course designed to acquaint students with the French language and culture. Students will also explore French culture through reading, class discussion, and French food. First year language will be acquired through grammar instruction, listening, speaking, and writing.

Learning activities include, but are not limited to reading short stories, games, group activities, journal writing, and Bible verses. Students will continue their learning at home by watching and practicing with videos, reading, and completing written exercises.

As a one-credit class, students can expect to have 2-3 hours of at-home work each week. Student will be expected to complete assignments, write short compositions, and participate in class activities. Students will also take four short quarterly exams. Parental involvement will be minimal. I may just ask that parents help their students to pace their at-home work. Foreign language is better learned when practiced a little each day.
