ABOUT THE CLASS
This class is aimed to advance a student’s current cooking skills to independence and broadening their culinary experience to international cuisine. The students must be comfortable in the kitchen and have an eagerness to learn/broaden their skills. They will work independently and in small groups through hands on learning and demonstration and are then expected to cook a weekly related food item at home for their family to practice and refine their skills.
During the first semester, students will make typical American meals such as pie crust, pizza dough, yeast breads, omelets and cookies. The second semester, we will explore flavors from around the world including Asian (ramen bowls, spring rolls), Italian(homemade pasta), German(apple pancakes) and Mexican(homemade flour tortillas).
The student will also deepen their knowledge and skill in nutrition, fresh ingredients, and developing a complete meal for a family. At the end of the year, the students will be given a "mystery challenge" of a set of ingredients to create a recipe for the other in class to judge/enjoy.
